Members of the Banstead History Research Group maintain ongoing research into the history of the Banstead Village area, and have published many local history books including the latest (published May 2007) titled The History of All Saints Church, Banstead. The The Bourne Society was founded in 1956, and takes it's name from the underground streams that flow in the area along the lines of the A22 and A23 roads and is considered to be probably the largest of its kind in the UK. The Society cover the history of Caterham, Chaldon, Chelsham, Chipstead, Coulsdon, Farleigh, Godstone, Kenley, Sanderstead, Whyteleafe, Warlingham, and Woldingham They are able to help newcomers to the area to satisfy their curiosity, and to stimulate residents to search out information. The Society seeks to place the area in a historical perspective, this is does through it's publications, visits, speakers, meetings, placement of plaques, and archaeological work. It is a registered charity, and as well as general work, it has active special-interest groups, these include Archaeology, Industrial Archaeology, Photography, Pub and Landscape History.
